The first step in learning how to play poker is understanding the rules of the game. Once all the players have their two cards, there is a round of betting that starts with the player to the left of the dealer. There are 2 mandatory bets called blinds that must be put into the pot before the players see their cards. These bets ensure there’s money in the pot for the winner.
After the first round of betting, 3 more cards are dealt to the table. These are called the flop. A second round of betting takes place where players can call, raise or fold their hands. If a player has a strong poker hand they will raise to force out the weaker ones.
A fourth card is then dealt face up on the board. This is called the turn. A third round of betting takes place. If a player has a good poker hand they will raise to force out the other players who may have better ones.
The final stage of the hand is where a fifth and last community card is placed on the board. The final betting round takes place. The highest poker hand wins the pot. If you have a premium poker hand such as a pair of kings or queens, bet aggressively from the get-go. This will scare the other players at your table away from going head-to-head with you.
